Paul Hobbs fell in love with Argentina on his first visit in 1988. The potential he saw in the terroir and especially in the human element, spurred his consulting career and his wide-ranging international involvement. Paul Hobbs Imports was founded to bring to the US some of the wines he had a hand in creating.
In 1998, Paul founded Viña Cobos with partners Andrea Marchiori and Luis Barraud to explore the true character of malbec and the expressions of different Mendoza growing areas. Bramare and Felino joined the Cobos range as the wines were launched in the US in 2001 and 2002.
In 2009, we expanded our portfolio to include three like-minded producers. Our search for quality-obsessed, estate-driven and family-owned wineries that would complement Viña Cobos led us to represent Pulenta Estate, Riglos and Finca 8.
In 2013 PHI expanded its horizons, incorporating Pérez Cruz, a terroir-driven Chilean winery; Alto Limay, a 100% Pinot Noir project from Patagonia; and Stratus, an innovative, sustainable Canadian producer.
The goal is still the same: to import world-class wines with Paul Hobbs’ seal of approval.
